(OPEC) announces the unanimous selection of Kuwait's candidate, Haitham Al-Ghais, as the new Secretary-General of the Organization

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced today, Monday, the unanimous selection of Kuwait's candidate, Haitham Al-Ghais, as the new Secretary-General of the organization.
And (OPEC) stated in a statement that this came during a special ministerial meeting held by the organization via video technology.
The statement added that Al-Ghais will assume his position for a period of three years, starting from the first of next August, succeeding the Nigerian Mohamed Barkindo, who has held the position since 2016.
The statement pointed out that Al-Ghais was the governor of Kuwait in OPEC from 2017 to 2021 and is currently the deputy managing director of international marketing at the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
Al-Ghais also chaired the joint technical committee to announce cooperation between the (OPEC +) alliance of oil producers from inside and outside OPEC in 2017.
The organization expressed its appreciation to the outgoing Secretary-General, Muhammad Barkindo, for his successful leadership of the organization during his term of office, which ends on July 31, 2022.
