"The Global Energy Transition... Different Scenarios"
The General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (Economic Affairs Sector) organized the Fourth Petroleum Media Forum held at the GCC Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, on 14-15 November, under the theme “Global Energy Transformation…Various scenarios within the framework of the efforts exerted to activate the Gulf Petroleum Media Strategy for the GCC countries about the developmental role of petroleum and highlight its importance as a primary source of energy around the world. The forum was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr.Abdulmalik Bin Saleh Al-Sheikh Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the General Secretariat, who delivered a speech in which he stressed the pivotal role played by the media, stressing the importance of enhancing communication between the energy sector and identifying oil and gas between the media and educational institutions and the importance of having specialized media professionals in the field of energy by highlighting the efforts of the GCC countries and their role in securing the energy needs of the countries of the world in sufficient quantities and reasonable prices on a safe and clean environment. The impact of Covid-19 on the energy sector and the efforts made by Member States to face the repercussions of this pandemic at the international level were highlighted at this forum, in addition to the importance of raising awareness of GCC citizens and encouraging specialists in the energy sector to follow the developments of the international petroleum market and the positions of the GCC States towards energy and climate issues. The fundamental role played by digital media on the future of energy initiatives locally and regionally and after discussions and scientific dialogues prevailed by a sincere desire to activate these ambitious ideas, which aim to develop petroleum media in the Gulf countries, the forum issued the following recommendations:
- Emphasize the dissemination of factual data and facts on the official websites, provide defamatory figures on various energy affairs and ensure the access of official and correct information to the media which stops rumors.
- Urging oil and energy companies in the GCC States to highlight their role in social responsibility and cultural and economic activities.
- Responsibility of media institutions in the preparation and training of professional journalists in the fields of energy through their participation and training in institutions concerned with energy affairs contributes to their acquisition of experience and specialization.
- The need for the presence of media professionals in the GCC countries specialized in all fields of energy and climate change to highlight the efforts of the GCC countries and to defend their interests.
- Training young national media cadres in official news agencies and major newspapers to understand the oil industry at all stages.
- Promote petroleum education systems and integrate them with the diverse education strategies in the petroleum educational stages in the Gulf countries.
- Develop an effective cooperation strategy between state oil institutions and companies in the Gulf countries to exchange media materials.
- Promote plans to add scientific curricula on the oil industry in the media departments of colleges and universities to graduate national media staff with full knowledge of the oil industry and its challenges.
- Study the possibility of publishing oil topics that serve the interests of the Gulf States in various foreign languages in major international magazines and newspapers, and publish videos in the countries that consume crude oil in the world.
- Production of petroleum media content in a clear, simple, and understandable format in order to raise awareness and educate the public in the GCC States.
