The Saudi Energy Minister welcomes the appointment of the Kuwaiti Al-Ghais as the new Secretary-General of (OPEC)

Today, Monday, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman welcomed the appointment of Kuwaiti Haitham Al-Ghais as the new Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as of August 1.
Prince Abdulaziz said in a press statement, "I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Haitham Al-Ghais on his appointment by acclamation as the new Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)."
Earlier on Monday, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced the unanimous selection of Kuwait's candidate, Haitham Al-Ghais, as the new Secretary-General of the Organization.
And (OPEC) stated in a statement that this came during a special ministerial meeting held by the organization via video technology.
The statement added that Al-Ghais will assume his position for a period of three years, starting from the first of next August, succeeding the Nigerian Mohamed Barkindo, who has held the position since 2016.
The statement pointed out that Al-Ghais was the governor of Kuwait in OPEC from 2017 to 2021 and is currently the deputy managing director of international marketing at the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
Al-Ghais also chaired the joint technical committee to announce cooperation between the (OPEC +) alliance of oil producers from inside and outside OPEC in 2017.
