KOC's digital transformation strategy and its most important applications
Today, Tuesday, March 14, 2023, the Ministry of Oil organized a panel discussion entitled “Experience of the Smart Field Codef at the Jurassic Gas Facility EPF-50”, which was attended by technical affairs staff and guests from the Environment Public Authority, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the Scientific Research Institute, the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and media professionals.
At the beginning of the panel discussion, the Director of Public Relations and Information at the Ministry of Oil, Sheikha Tamader Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, welcomed the attendees to discuss digital transformation in the Kuwaiti oil sector, which has become a prominent feature of daily business to improve the decision-making process in exploration and operation of facilities.
She said that digital transformation and electronic services are of great importance in the future of the oil and gas sector in the State of Kuwait, as a digital transformation not only increases efficiency but also drives innovation and provides job opportunities and skill competencies in the digital field and managing oil facilities remotely, indicating that the oil sector is implementing future digital projects that help in completing the digital transformation process.
Sheikha Tamader Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah stated that the Ministry of Oil took upon itself the implementation of the digital transformation project three years ago and succeeded in converting all its administrative and technical work to comprehensive digitization and that the Ministry is moving towards implementing and building an integrated technological system to raise the efficiency of operational performance and full automation.
The coordinator of the Digital Transformation Unit at the Kuwait Oil Company, Eng. Hamad Salem Al-Rashidi, reviewed: The panel discussion aims to exchange experiences among the attendees and to learn about the digital transformation strategy in "Kuwait Oil" and the goals and themes that focus on achieving the State of Kuwait's plan for the year 2035. As well as the strategy of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries for 2040.
He stated that the State of Kuwait owns more than 4,000 oil wells, and more than 90% of those wells have been converted to work with the intelligent system. During the last fiscal year, the Kuwait Oil Company succeeded in reducing costs by 100 million dinars through digital transformation projects, and more than 300 Million dinars increased production.
He pointed out that digital transformation is essential in supporting budgets and developing a generation capable of facing technical challenges, whether in the Kuwait Oil Company, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, its subsidiaries, or the State of Kuwait in general.
For her part, the Head of the Codef Unit - Department of Jurassic Gas Fields Development at KOC, Engineer Alaa Al-Saleh, said that the digital platforms of the Jurassic Gas Fields Development Department had been activated, as the goal of the integrated digital gas field project is to integrate and cooperate with all efforts made by all teams. To reach the primary goal, which is to produce 950 million cubic feet of free gas.
She stated that the intelligent digital field contributed to increasing and improving the daily production of gas in Kuwait, noting that the project mainly contributed to achieving integration between man and technology, based on the belief in the role of the individual in KOC.
Al-Saleh added, "The digital platform has been devised and activated in Kuwait Oil so that these platforms are used daily in periodic meetings and discussions. Through these interactions and joint efforts, fateful decisions are taken with the least time and effort."
For his part, KOC Chief Manufacturing Engineer Eng. Bader Al-Khalidi said that the intelligent field in Kuwait Oil is considered one of the first projects in the Gulf region and aims to reduce the financial costs of oil production, increase production and diversity, and pump new experiences for employees in how to deal with the different conditions of oil wells. And reduce losses that may result from oil spills or emergency closures.
He stated that KOC implemented the bright digital field in cooperation with international companies in this field, which helped transfer information and expertise to the Kuwaiti oil sector and empower Kuwaiti youth in the KOC.
