The State of Kuwait nominates Haitham Al-Ghais for the post of OPEC Secretary-General
The State of Kuwait has submitted the nomination of Mr. Haitham Al-Ghais for the position of Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which will be vacant from August 2022 after the completion of his term by the current Secretary-General, Mr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo.
It is known that Al-Ghais has been the governor of the State of Kuwait in OPEC since 2017, and he chaired the joint technical committee between OPEC and countries outside OPEC, which is the committee responsible for monitoring production and studying the conditions of oil markets according to the production cut agreement signed between the countries contributing to the OPEC + agreement.
Al-Ghais also chaired the internal audit committee of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, and has various contributions within the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries at the level of the Organization’s Board of Governors and the various committees and work of the organization and cooperation with countries outside OPEC.
Al-Ghais has extensive experience spanning over thirty years in the field of global oil markets and the oil industry, and he has a wide presence and participation in many international oil conferences and forums.
Al-Ghais was included in the global marketing sector of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation in the various sales departments and headed the corporation's regional offices in Beijing and London.
He has contributed to many specialized studies of global markets of all kinds.
Al-Ghais enjoys wide support and deep-rooted relations with representatives of all member countries within the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, as well as with non-OPEC oil-producing countries.
