Japan: Kuwaiti crude oil imports rose 16 percent in September

Government data in Japan showed today, Friday, that imports of Kuwaiti crude oil rose last September by 16 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 5.96 million barrels, equivalent to 199,000 barrels per day, in the first increase in two months. The data issued by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of Japan said in a preliminary report that Kuwait, as the fourth largest oil supplier to Japan, supplied 8.1 percent of Japan's total imports of crude. The data added that Japan's total imports of crude oil recorded in September a growth of 15.3 percent on an annual basis to reach 2.47 million barrels per day, an increase for the second consecutive month. He explained that shipments from the Middle East accounted for 92.7 percent of Japan's total crude imports, up 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year. The UAE maintained the top list of Japan's oil suppliers after imports from it rose by 33 percent from the previous year to reach 895,000 barrels per day, while Saudi Arabia ranked second with imports amounting to 855,000 barrels per day, down 0.3 percent. Qatar came in third place, with imports amounting to 208 thousand barrels per day, and Bahrain in fifth place, with imports amounting to 83 thousand barrels per day. Japan is described as the third largest consumer of oil in the world after China and the United States.
