His Excellency the Minister of Oil and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mohammed Abdul Latif Al-Fares, accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and the representative of the State of Kuwait in the Executive Office of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), Sheikh Dr. Nimr Fahd Al-Malik Al-Sabah, and Director of the Public Relations and Information Department at the Ministry of Oil Sheikha Tamader Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah visited To the headquarters of (OAPEC), His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization, Mr. Ali Sabt bin Sabt, was at the forefront of his reception. During the meeting, they reviewed the most important current activities of OAPEC and ways to enhance cooperation to serve joint work efforts.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Oil said that His Excellency the Minister of Oil affirmed, in a speech during the visit, the keenness of the State of Kuwait to provide all forms of support and assistance to joint Arab action, especially in the field of the oil and gas industry, given the important position of this industry at the level of Arab countries.
Al-Fares added that OAPEC is one of the fruits of joint Arab action, as Kuwait hosts the permanent headquarters of the organization since its founding in 1968, explaining that in light of the current developments in the global oil market, it requires more coordination and cooperation between oil-exporting countries in general. Among them are the Arab member states of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), which includes in its membership 6 member states of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
During the visit, His Excellency the Minister was briefed on the work and activities carried out by the General Secretariat of the organization, headed by the Secretary-General, Mr. Ali Sabt bin Sabt, where the General Secretariat is currently working on implementing a plan to develop and activate the organization in implementation of the directives of the Council of Ministers of the organization, especially in the areas of increasing cooperation with international organizations and bodies Specialized in energy, increasing cooperation between Arab companies emanating from the organization, as well as increasing specialized petroleum studies and reports.
Dr. Al-Fares was also briefed on the future directions of the General Secretariat of the organization in many areas, including the development of scenarios to anticipate possible future events (prices - economic diversification), expansion of specialized petroleum studies, intensification of seminars or training courses for member states, and following up on current developments in issues Energy, renewable energy, green economy, climate change, and the trend towards hiring some experts from the headquarters country or from regional and global institutions to conduct proactive and supervisory studies.
The importance of the role played by OAPEC in supporting member states and achieving cooperation in various aspects of economic activity in the oil and gas industry was emphasized after the OAPEC Council of Ministers approved the plan to activate and develop the organization, where the latest developments in the plan and ways of activating and developing the organization were reviewed. Provide full support to the activities of the General Secretariat of the Organization.
His Excellency the Minister of Oil praised the efforts and effective steps taken by OAPEC in electronic linking with all governmental and private agencies in Kuwait, as well as activating petroleum media and public relations between OAPEC and the Ministry of Oil, which resulted in the formation of a media team between the two sides with the aim of exchanging Experiences, activating cooperation and organizing joint events such as conferences specialized in petroleum media, public relations, training courses, discussion seminars and exchanging media publications. Al-Fares also praised the organization of OAPEC conducting workshops in cooperation with Kuwait University.
The meeting of the Executive Office of OAPEC had discussed the proposal of the State of Kuwait to activate the role of the petroleum media in the member states, and it was discussed and praised as a new stage of constructive and fruitful cooperation between the members of the organization in highlighting the strategic and pivotal role of the oil industry.
Minister Al-Fares expressed his happiness with the electronic cooperation between the Ministry of Oil and OAPEC by linking the organization’s library with the Ministry of Oil via a link provided on the Ministry of Oil’s website, allowing the user to quickly access the organization’s library and search it as an edifice that embraces oil books and periodicals. And international journals, as well as being the oldest specialized petroleum libraries in the Arab countries.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil Sheikh Dr. Nimr Fehad Al-Malik Al-Sabah said that the transformation of the OAPEC library from paper to fully electronic is underway, with direct instructions and directives from His Excellency the Minister of Oil and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Al-Fares, stressing the need to activate the role of the library and convert it to electronic, as it is It is the oldest library in the Arab countries.
In addition, His Excellency the Secretary-General of OAPEC, Mr. Ali Sabt Bin Sabt, thanked His Excellency the Minister of Oil and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Al-Fares for the visit and for providing full support to the organization in carrying out its work.
