In a pioneering step for electronic transformation and in line with the government’s trend towards digital, the Ministry of Oil announced the completion of the Digital Oil Memory project, through which the Ministry succeeded in converting all the oil archives of the State of Kuwait from photos, historical oil documents, books, magazines and various publications to digital preservation and making it an easy-to-circulate material at high speed.
In this context, the Ministry of Oil said in a press statement that the digital oil memory project aims to preserve and document the ancient oil heritage of the State of Kuwait through digital transformation and preservation of a variety of oil photos and documents that dealt with the oil history of the State of Kuwait, where the project was keen to provide data, images and documents. For researchers, interested people, and scholars by accessing information using optical recognition technology (OCR), which enables the browser to search the content with the required word, and then access the books and publications that were received in it to facilitate the process of searching and reading well.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nimir Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah, said that the Ministry of Oil’s plan for electronic transformation comes out of keenness to keep pace with developments and in pursuit of achieving the government’s goals and Kuwait Vision 2035, and through the application of the latest technology and innovative and new ideas to improve performance and provide the best services, and transform all types of content circulated in the Ministry into electronic content that is easy to access, view and save.
He pointed out that the implementation of the digital oil memory project is a qualitative leap in how to preserve an oil archive that extends for decades and put it at everyone's reach and through the ministry's website, as the project saves time and effort and ensures the preservation of documents and data and access to them as quickly as possible.
Comprehensive archive
For her part, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Ministry of Oil Sheikha Tamader Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said that the Ministry of Oil succeeded in implementing the digital media oil memory project, as all books, magazines and brochures on the ministry’s website (www.moo.gov.kw) were archived in the format (QR code) and in (PDF) and online reading format on the official website in both Arabic and English with the participation of all program department employees.
She pointed out that the Ministry of Oil succeeded in building an integrated institutional memory, as all historical documents and documents were collected in an integrated manner, preserving this historical heritage from damage or loss, and making this archived information available for viewing by many personalities at the same time.
She stated that the Public Relations Department took 6 months to implement the digital oil memory project, as the project started in November of 2021 and was completed in April 2022.
