OPEC celebrates the 60th anniversary

Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, stressed on Monday the importance of the role that OPEC plays in the global energy market. Barkindo's position came in a speech to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It is noteworthy that the (OPEC) was established on the 14th of September 1960, when the senior Ministers of Oil met in Baghdad the capital of Iraq by representing the five founding countries of the organization. Which they are: Ahmed Syed Omar from Kuwait, Dr. Fouad Rouhani from Iran, Talaat Al-Shaibani from Iraq, Abdullah Al-Tariki from Saudi Arabia and Dr. Juan Pablo Perez Alfonso from Venezuela. The organization has held time for knowledge and we must remember what the Venezuelan Minister of Oil said at the time. We are now united and we are making history. Barkindo said in a speech distributed to various media outlets that the organization has become an integral part of the global energy community, which does not dispense with consulting in the affairs of the oil industry and puts its policies in this sector at the forefront of its concerns. Also recalled the role played by OPEC in advocating just humanitarian issues by supporting sustainable development, eliminating poverty, protecting the environment and securing energy for all. Also, it was clear that OPEC is determined to face the challenges and its strong commitment to securing a balanced and stable oil market for producers and consumers alike.
