Digital transformation is a fundamental pillar for enhancing operational efficiency and achieving sustainable development

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Oil, and in the presence of His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Sheikh Dr. Nimr Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah, and the Ministry’s leaders, the activities of the Digital Transformation Conference in Kuwait kicked off today (Monday), December 2, 2024, at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, under the slogan (Reimagining Kuwait after the Digital Age), which is organized by GM Group in cooperation with the Central Agency for Information Technology. The conference is a strategic platform to highlight digital transformations in the oil and gas sector and their role in enhancing efficiency and sustainability. In the opening speech of the conference, His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nimr Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah, stressed in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Oil, that digital transformation is an imperative necessity to achieve sustainable development and enhance Kuwait’s competitiveness in global markets. He added: “The Ministry of Oil realized early on the importance of digital transformation as a fundamental pillar for enhancing operational efficiency and achieving sustainable development, and the Ministry was one of the first ministries to adopt advanced electronic systems, such as the electronic attendance fingerprint system, which contributed to improving efficiency and speed of achievement.” Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah continued: “The Ministry of Oil has also made significant progress in digitizing the work environment through smart messaging systems compatible with digital devices, which has helped speed up procedures and improve communication with government and external entities.” He said: “As part of these efforts, the Ministry of Oil has launched a number of pioneering initiatives, such as the “Digital Transformation” Award, which aims to encourage employees to develop technical solutions based on artificial intelligence to analyze operational data and monitor efficiency. The Ministry has also supported these initiatives by developing its digital infrastructure to enhance operational and administrative processes, in line with global technological transformations in the energy sector.” Among the notable achievements of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah mentioned that the Big Data Analysis System has been adopted, which is used to transform operational data into accurate strategic insights that contribute to improving decision-making and increasing operational efficiency. These efforts have had a positive impact on improving performance, reducing waste, and enhancing sustainability. Integrated Digital Platform Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah pointed out that the Ministry of Oil has launched an integrated digital platform to collect and analyze technical data, such as drilling and production reports and safety statistics, and display them with modern graphic interfaces that contribute to reducing reliance on paper and accelerating operations. This development has contributed to improving productivity, reducing errors and enhancing transparency in work. His Excellency also stressed that within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency, smart systems have been used to monitor performance in oil refineries based on key performance indicators that are continuously monitored to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality, which supports the Ministry’s goals in achieving environmental sustainability and reducing environmental impact. Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah stressed that “the efforts of the Ministry of Oil in digital transformation confirm its position as a fundamental pillar of economic development in the State of Kuwait, as the Ministry is constantly working to coordinate with other oil entities to unify data flow and enhance digital integration between various sector institutions, which contributes to raising the country’s competitiveness on the global level.” He continued by saying: “The conference is also an opportunity to enhance cooperation with international entities and explore innovative experiences that highlight the importance of digitization in improving operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact, which places Kuwait among the leading countries in implementing digital solutions in the energy sector.” Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah also thanked those in charge of organizing this prominent event, which reflects an advanced future vision that contributes to enhancing the innovation and digital transformation system. Discussions and recommendations The conference continues until tomorrow (Tuesday), where it discusses successful international experiences in the field of digitization in the oil and gas sector, providing a platform for exchanging experiences and exploring new opportunities to enhance innovation. The conference issues practical recommendations to support the digital transformation process in Kuwait and develop the oil sector in a way that serves the goals of comprehensive development. The conference witnesses the participation of an elite group of local and international experts, who will provide insights on how to improve the efficiency of the oil sector using digital transformation technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and big data analysis. Successful experiences from global companies will also be reviewed, highlighting the role of technology in achieving sustainability and reducing the environmental impact. The Ministry of Oil affirms its commitment to continue working on digitizing its operational and administrative operations, in cooperation with local and international partners, to ensure keeping pace with the latest technological developments. The Ministry aims to enhance the competitiveness of the oil sector by implementing innovative digital solutions, which contributes to improving operational efficiency and achieving national goals for sustainable development.
