Kuwait Gulf Oil Company announced that the Wafra Joint Operations Department has achieved an accomplishment in the project of converting the frequency of electrical power from 50 to 60 Hz with a capacity of up to 25 megawatts to meet the needs of vital facilities in the Wafra Joint Operations area.
The company's Deputy CEO for Joint Operations, Bader Al-Munifi, said in a press statement today, Monday, that the project aims to supply vital facilities whose equipment depends on a frequency of 60 Hz, as these facilities previously depended on an old power generation station owned by the company.
Al-Munifi explained that the previous reliance on the aforementioned station had several negatives, including a high rate of breakdowns, operating costs, and harmful gas emissions such as carbon dioxide, adding that this project contributes to the stability and development of production by supplying main facilities such as the main oil gathering center, sub-centers, and the pressure station with electricity.
He stated that the project is also distinguished by its use of the latest equipment and technology in the field of energy conversion and distribution, expecting it to achieve sustainable financial savings by reducing energy consumption and loss, in addition to reducing energy consumption costs for the company, which will constitute a positive step indicating the company's commitment to environmental standards.
He pointed out that the project reduces the burning and consumption of more than 8 million cubic feet of gas per day, in addition to dispensing with half a million liters of diesel annually.
He expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Electricity Distribution Team in the Joint Operations Department of Al-Wafra in operating the project, praising all workers on the project and all safety measures in the field work related to it and its absence of accidents.
He pointed out that transferring high-voltage electrical loads to these sensitive facilities while they are in service safely and without disrupting production operations required careful planning and effective and continuous communication between many work teams, stressing that the efforts made are appreciated by the company's executive management due to their contribution to achieving work plans and serving production.
