His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil visits OAPEC

Within the framework of strengthening and consolidating the existing relationship between the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) and the State of Kuwait, one of the organization’s founding countries, His Excellency Dr. Imad Al-Atiqi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, today, Sunday, March 10, visited the headquarters of OAPEC, where he was received by His Excellency Engineer Jamal Issa Al-Loughani, Secretary-General of the Organization, and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Nimer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, and Representative of the State of Kuwait in the Executive Office. During the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Organization reviewed the activities of the General Secretariat, the work it undertakes, its issuance of periodic reports, technical and economic studies, the seminars and conferences it holds, most notably the Arab Energy Conference, and the training courses it organizes. The Secretary-General also provided a brief overview of the companies emanating from the Organization. . The plan to develop the organization’s work and restructure it in line with the developments and developments taking place in the global energy industry was also reviewed, in accordance with what was directed by Their Highnesses and Excellencies the energy ministers of the member states. For his part, His Excellency Dr. Imad Al-Atiqi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, praised the role played by the organization in various activities. His Excellency said that OAPEC is one of the ancient and pioneering organizations and praised the positive steps that are being taken at the present time in the framework of activating and developing the organization’s work and restructuring it. To expand its activity to include new and renewable energy sources and to expand its follow-up to cover all emerging energy issues, such as climate change issues, energy transformations, and others. His Excellency stressed the importance of addressing a number of issues that have recently been raised about oil and gas, in terms of them being fossil sources that pollute the environment, and calling for their disposal in the future and focusing on other energy sources. He stated that energy policy makers and decision makers in the countries that produce and export these two sources of energy have a role to play. Whatever must be done in order to preserve and defend its interests in all international forums and exploit its resources appropriately, taking into account issues related to the environment. His Excellency concluded by pointing out the importance of putting things in perspective. The issue of defending the rights owed to oil-producing and exporting countries must be among their priorities, and it is a right that we see as legitimate.
