Kuwait Petroleum International Company announced that its marketing arm, Kuwait Petroleum International Aviation Fuel Company Limited (Q8Aviation), has completed the first blending process for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its import terminal in the French city of Le Havre.
The CEO of Kuwait Petroleum International Company, Shafi Al-Ajmi, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Friday, that this new activity represents a new step forward in the company’s ongoing efforts to provide more sustainable aviation fuel.
Al-Ajmi stated that sustainable aviation fuel is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 90 percent during its lifespan compared to traditional aviation fuel.
He explained that the process of producing this type of environmentally friendly fuel derived from renewable materials such as used cooking oil (UCO) and agricultural waste was carried out in accordance with voluntary sustainability certification standards in compliance with environmental standards (ISCC EU), which was fully recognized by the European Commission.
He stressed that this “qualitative achievement” was preceded by great preparations from the Kuwait Petroleum International Aviation Fuel Company Limited team, as he worked to review the mixing procedures at the station and then approve them, and worked with a local inspection company to develop a manual mixing protocol to determine the safe mixing ratio before the actual mixing.
He stated that this achievement will enhance the process of initial supply of sustainable blended aviation fuel in Le Havre, France, and the company’s plan to supply sustainable aviation fuel in France, and achieve greater integration of the supply chain of the Kuwait Petroleum International Company.
He stated that the company will work to develop more mixing facilities within Kuwait Petroleum International Limited's main aviation fuel markets to support the aviation industry's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
It is noteworthy that Kuwait Petroleum International Aviation Fuel Company Limited will deliver sustainable aviation fuel to Charles de Gaulle International Airport, the largest airport in France, and to Paris Orly International Airport, the second largest airport in the French capital, Paris.
