The OAPEC Council of Ministers approves holding its meeting in the State of Kuwait in December 2024

The Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) approved today, Tuesday, holding its next meeting in the State of Kuwait in December 2024. OAPEC said in a statement that this came during the discussion of the agenda of the 111th Ministerial Council related to the work and activity of the organization in Doha, in the presence of the oil and energy ministers of the member states. The statement stated that the organization's Council of Ministers held its 111th meeting yesterday, headed by the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayyan Al-Sawad, Iraq's representative in the organization's Council of Ministers. He explained that the meeting discussed the organization’s draft estimated budget for the year 2024, in addition to developing its work and restructuring it, developing its activities, and reconsidering the systems and laws that govern its work in a way that is compatible with the challenges and new developments in the field of energy. The meeting reviewed the steps that were taken regarding developing the infrastructure of information technology systems within the organization, in addition to following up on the activation of Cabinet Resolution No. (4/107) regarding (the Green Middle East Initiative) and adopting the application of the concept of (circular carbon economy). The report of the Secretary-General of OAPEC, Engineer Jamal Al-Loughani, discussed the activities of the General Secretariat, represented in the preparation of economic and technical studies, reports following up on global petroleum conditions, environmental affairs and climate change, the progress of work in the Information Bank, and the activities organized by the General Secretariat, which it participated in and will organize during the year 2024, in addition to announcing the Winners of the OAPEC Scientific Research Award, which is awarded every two years and its field for 2022 is (decarbonization technologies in the petroleum industry and the circular economy). The meeting also issued a number of ministerial decisions related to some of the topics on its agenda, with the Organization’s General Secretariat undertaking to put those decisions into actual implementation. The Ministerial Council concluded its meeting by expressing its thanks and appreciation to Qatar for hosting this meeting, which coincided with the holding of the 12th session of the Arab Energy Conference, which Qatar is hosting for the third time, and to the General Secretariat of the organization for the good organization and preparation for this meeting.
