Minister of Oil: We adhere to our refusal to include reducing the use of fossil fuels in the draft final agreement (cop28)

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil, Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Saad Al-Barrak, affirmed on Monday that the State of Kuwait adheres to its position of rejecting the inclusion of the issue of reducing or abandoning the use of fossil fuels in the draft final agreement of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Change... Climate (COP28) held in Dubai. This came in a statement made by Minister Al-Barrak to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during his participation in the 12th Arab Energy Conference held in the Qatari capital, Doha, for two days under the slogan (Energy and Arab Cooperation) to discuss the importance of cooperation between Arab countries in the fields of energy and confronting the burdens and responsibilities imposed on us as producing and exporting countries. . Minister Al-Barrak added, "Abandoning fossil fuels will undoubtedly reflect negatively on the global economy and create problems in the energy sector, development stability, and the necessary provision for developing countries, in addition to the desired sustainable development contained in the 17 goals of the United Nations." He stressed "the State of Kuwait's firm belief in working to reduce emissions and preserve the environment and the necessity of addressing the issue of emissions through developing technical solutions and international oversight." The COP 28 conference was launched last November 30 in Expo City, Dubai, with broad Kuwaiti and international participation, forming a prominent global station for unifying efforts in the field of climate action and identifying opportunities for cooperation to find solutions to climate challenges. The conference, which concludes tomorrow, brings together states parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and thousands of experts, journalists, climate activists, members of local communities, and representatives of companies and non-governmental groups.
