Tomorrow, Monday, the Qatari capital, Doha, will host the 111th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), with the participation of the oil and energy ministers of the member states to discuss the latest developments related to developing the organization’s work, restructuring it and developing its activities.
The Secretary-General of OAPEC, Engineer Jamal Al-Loughani, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Sunday, that “the meeting will discuss a group of topics about the work and activity of the organization, the most important of which is the organization’s projected estimated budget for the year 2024 and reconsidering the systems, laws and mechanisms that govern its work in a way that is compatible with it.” With new challenges and developments in the field of energy.
He added, "The meeting will be chaired by the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and the Minister of Oil, the representative of Iraq in the Council of Ministers of the organization, which has the presidency of the 2023 session, Hayyan Al-Sawad."
Al-Loughani indicated that at this meeting, the winners of the OAPEC Scientific Research Award, which is awarded every two years, will be announced and its field for the year 2022 is (decarbonization technologies in the petroleum industry and the circular economy), in addition to reviewing the Secretary-General’s report on the various activities of the General Secretariat.
He explained that the meeting will be preceded by the 168th meeting of the organization’s Executive Office, which will be held today under the chairmanship of the Iraqi representative in the office, Engineer Naseer Jabbar.
Al-Loughani expressed his thanks to Qatar for hosting this meeting, which is being held in conjunction with the 12th session of the Arab Energy Conference, which Qatar is hosting for the third time, praising the continued support that the General Secretariat of OAPEC receives from member states in order to achieve the goals for which the organization was established.
