Kuwait stresses the importance of its participation in the preliminary meetings of the Conference of the Parties (COP28)

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nimer Al-Malik Al-Sabah, stressed on Monday the importance of the State of Kuwait’s participation in the preliminary ministerial meetings of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), based on the urgent need for concerted and unified efforts around the world on the issue of climate action and climate protection. This came in a statement made by Sheikh Nimr to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during his participation on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, Saad Al-Barrak, in the preliminary meeting of the COP28 conference, whose activities will last for two days in Abu Dhabi. He added that the meetings are of special importance because they demonstrate the ability of the international community to deliver, send a clear message on climate protection, and discuss the extremely important issues raised in this regard. He stressed the State of Kuwait's commitment to agreements that would enhance efforts to reduce emissions from the current energy system and cooperate to build a system capable of keeping pace with future requirements and challenges, especially since there are instructions from the High Leadership to turn to renewable and green energy. Sheikh Nimer referred to the clear instructions of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to work on establishing stations in the country that operate with clean energy through environmentally friendly projects based on the State of Kuwait’s commitment to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to provide renewable and environmentally clean energy by reducing emissions. He expressed his aspiration for fruitful discussions and valuable discussions for the participants in the COP28 conference, which will start from November 30 to December 12, amid the participation of prominent leaders around the world to enhance efforts to reduce emissions from the current energy system and cooperate to build a system capable of keeping pace with future requirements and challenges. In a related context, the Emirati Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, President of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, in his speech at the opening of the conference’s preliminary ministerial meetings, called for concerted and unified efforts of the world in confronting the repercussions of climate change to do what is required and achieve the desired achievements during the conference being held in Dubai. Al-Jaber said that the presidency of the conference is working to achieve fundamental progress in climate action through consensus and enhancing effective cooperation to ensure reaching common climate and development goals, explaining that despite the current global division, there is an urgent need to demonstrate the ability of the international community to achieve and intensify the efforts of all parties.
