The CEO of Kuwait Petroleum International, Shafi Al-Ajmi, confirmed that the completion rate of the Duqm Refinery project in the Sultanate of Oman reached 98.9 percent by the end of last July, indicating that the project is the result of joint cooperation between the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries.
Al-Ajmi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Monday, that a delegation from the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, including three specialized engineers, recently paid a working visit to the Duqm Refinery project in the Sultanate of Oman, at the request of the refinery management and in coordination with the Kuwait International Petroleum Company.
He explained that this visit came to participate in the arrangements for operating the refinery units, which are equally owned by Kuwait Petroleum International and (Okio) Oman, in addition to the distinguished capabilities and long accumulated experience gained by the (National Petroleum) cadres in terms of operating and managing many major projects, the latest of which was the environmental fuel project. .
He added that KNPC engineers participated in the operation of diesel treatment units, hydrocracking and carbonization, along with a number of their specialized counterparts in the Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company and the Petrochemical Industries Company.
He stated that an integrated working group had previously been formed to participate in what is called (ensuring operational readiness), which ensures a smooth transition from the construction phase to operational readiness, as these teams work to develop plans for 14 work streams, including maintenance, operations, supply, human resources, security and safety.
Al-Ajmi stated that the percentage of completion in the implementation of these plans amounted to 98.5 percent, and it is expected that their completion will be completed with the start of the commercial operation of the refinery.
The Duqm Refinery is located in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman and will contribute, through its strategic location, to supplying the regional and global markets with high-quality refined oil products after its full operation expected at the end of this year, as the refinery’s refining capacity will reach 230,000 barrels per day.
KPC has committed to supply about 65 percent of the refinery's needs from Kuwaiti crude oil, which is in line with KPC's vision and strategy to provide safe marketing outlets for Kuwaiti oil.
The project consists of three main engineering packages: supply, construction and operation. The first package includes manufacturing and processing units, while the second package includes facilities and services. The third package includes external facilities, including the construction of a port for exporting products and the construction of crude oil storage tanks located in the Ras Markaz area, along with a 90-kilometer pipeline. Almost connects these tanks to the refinery.
