His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil participates in the ministers’ meeting Those responsible for environmental affairs in the Gulf countries

The Ministry of Oil announced that His Excellency the Undersecretary Sheikh Dr. Nimer Fahd Al-Malik Al-Sabah participated today, Monday, September 11, 2023, in the 25th meeting of the Committee of Their Highnesses, Excellencies, and Excellencies the Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which was held in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. The Ministry of Oil said in a press statement that the meeting, which was attended by His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and with the participation of a delegation from the Environment Public Authority, discussed a number of environmental topics, the most important of which was the decision of the Supreme Council regarding the environmental trends of the GCC countries for 2020, the requirements of the current environmental situation and the Green Middle East Initiative. Launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the decision of the Ministerial Council at its 154th session to establish a Gulf pavilion at the Conference of the Parties COP 28. The Ministry of Oil stated that the meeting touched on the agreement to preserve wildlife and its natural habitats in the Gulf states, the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, participation in the GCC pavilion at the Doha Horticultural Expo 2023, and international cooperation between the GCC countries with various brotherly and friendly countries. The Ministry indicated that the meeting discussed unifying positions in the meetings of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to establish a legally binding international treaty on plastic pollution. The meeting also discussed the date and place of holding the 26th meeting of the Committee of Their Excellencies and Excellencies the Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs in the GCC States. The Ministry of Oil revealed that Their Excellencies, Highnesses and Excellencies the Ministers reviewed the memorandum of the General Secretariat regarding the strategic plan of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs and the recommendations of the technical committees emerging from the strategic plan regarding the implementation of the initiatives, where it was agreed to continue holding seminars, conferences and workshops at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. In the areas of the strategic plan of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs, the General Secretariat undertakes coordination with the relevant committees regarding the titles and themes of the workshops, with the participation of relevant authorities, as well as holding periodic meetings between specialists in the field of environmental media in the GCC countries.
